This page is to recognize the Greatest Love Songs of the past few decades, collectively. Although all selections and the ranking of these songs are extremely debatable - these selections are undoubtedly ranked at or near the top of anyone's list of favourites.
It is extremely difficult to rank love songs without using personal feelings - for that defeats the purpose of love songs. They are created by emotions to instill special feelings in the listener and, therefore, I have placed strong weighting in the feelings that I get from each individual song. When I consider if the love song is truly great, I also take under strong consideration the lyrics and tone of the song. Some songs may sound great but have meaningless lyrics where as some songs may not have great music but may be truly profound in a poetic way. Finally, I consider the context of the song and it's performance by the artist. The context is the associaton of the song - usually to a movie. Any song can be good but it takes a special performance by an artist with heart to transform the song into the Greatest Love Song.
This list of the Greatest Love Songs has been intact since the inception of this website. Although I have wanted to change the list to reflect a wider variety of eras, new artists, and changes in my life, I have yet found time until now to update the page. There are some main-stays to the list. Unforgettable songs such as Whitney Houston's "I Will Always Love You will always be on our lists. I have also introduced some other songs in hope to help advertise their power and meaning such as Ronan Keating's version of "When You Say Nothing at All" or Savage Garden's new song "I Knew I Loved You" - but in most cases they do not require my help. I hope that everyone enjoys.
Without further delay, here is the list of the Greatest Love Songs.
