The Haze Page

This Page will hopefully link to useful sites for monitoring the current ongoing Haze Situation on Borneo. I also hope to maintain a gallery of pictures of the conditions in and around Bandar Seri Begawan in Brunei.

Borneo is Burning

borneo is burning
we see it in the sky
the dust orange moon at night
the sun
magenta and dull
in the early morning
we see it
hanging
a grey pall
that chokes the day
and we know
that somwhere in the south
borneo is burning
in early morning classrooms
before the noon heat
students write
compositions
on the environment
and the rainforest
and with each drawing of their lungs
breathe in half an acre

and we offer our own burnings
by the side of the road
piles of rubbish
blaze
and grass fires
in every garden
send twists and swirls of smoke
upwards
on warmer draughts
to join the haze
that fills the eyes
to the horizon
i can no longer taste
the burning forest
in my mouth
the smoke has become
the air
it has filled every place
with the knowledge
of borneo
burning
