FOLKLORE DANCE ENSEMBLE

Bulgarian Folklore Dance Ensemble "Svetlina" at the House of Culture of the saame name propagates the light of the centuries-old Bulgarian tradition in the genere since 1940.

The total number of dancers and musicians is 60, from 16 to 30 years old. The prevailing part of them are pupils and students. The structure is quite flexible and part of thr repertoire consist of dances engaging less participants. The repertoire includes more than 90 dances from the numerous and varied ethnographic regions of the country. They are performed in typical cstumes, of which the visited ensemble possesses a splendid collection.

The ensemble gives a lot of concerts in Bulgaria and has visited with great success a number of countries: Germany, Algeria, Spain, Former Yugoslavia, Sudan, Switzerland. Its rich collection of awards contains, in particular, 7 first prizes from the 7 consecutive national competitions:

Laureate of the world Youth Festival in Moscow(1975),
The Gold Cup from Agriggento (Sicily, 1963), The Gold Medal from Cairo (1964), The Gold Chestnut from Castel del Piano (Italy, 1970), First Prize from Chateauneuf du Faou (France,1984), The Grand Prix from Edegem(Belgium, 1993), The Grand Prix from Yoanina(Greece, 1993).
It is bearer of the National Medal named after the Saints Kiril and Methodius.
Mr. Zahari Andreev, one of the most eminent choreographers in the country, it is artistic directorsince 1951.
He has been awarded with the Medal "Saints Kirilic and Methodius" and with the title "Honorable Artist".
