Name: Whitney Frost
Alias: Madame Masque. Krissy Longfellow. Contessa Giuietta Nefaria.
First appearance: Tales of Suspense #97
Enemies: Iron Man, Bethany Cabe, the Grim Reaper.
Friends: Her fiance abandoned her, fearing for his political career. Her father and Mordecai Midas left her. Tony Stark almost broke through to her, but she's not feeling so loving nowadays.
History: Raised the priviledged daughter of financier (and mob lawyer) Byron Frost, it was only after his death that Whitney discovered, to her horror, that her birth father was the Eastern European criminal mastermind Count Nefaria. After being abandoned by her finace, she returned to Nefaria, who trained her to be his second-in-command. After his betrayal, Whitney was fleeing authorities when her escape ship crashed. She was rescued from the wreckage by Mordecai Midas, who hid her ruined face behind a golden mask. Whitney became the head of the Vegas based branch of the Maggia, before Jasper Sitwell, the SHIELD agent who'd professed to love her, attempted to turn her in. Leaving him, she almost found comfort with Tony Stark, before becoming even more embittered when it appeared that he killed her father. Whitney became a recluse, holing herself up inside a secret base, creating life-like simulcras to interact with the outside world. One such doppleganger escaped her clutches, taking refuge with the Avengers before being recaptured. |

Favorite storyline: Avengers #31-34, which does more to explain her history, personality, and that 'Masque' who was hanging with the Avengers back during the Crossing than anything in ten years. A paranoid, mentally unstable Whitney must confront the Avengers, the Grim Reaper, Tony Stark, her father, and her own inability to trust or show weakness.
Affiliation: Madame Masque runs (or ran) the Las Vegas based branch of the Maggia. Her doppleganger was a sorta-kinda member of the Avengers before being recaptured. She worked amiably with both her father and Mordecai Midas before they betrayed her. She and Iron Man had feelings for each other, but like every other man in her life, he failed her.
Powers: Whitney is a highly trained capable combatant with hand-guns, but has no other powers. |
