Blues Preservation Society in Bakersfield

You are invited to join us in our efforts to advance blues music as a vital part of our community. We believe that Blues should be taught in our schools and other educational facilities, such as libraries. The culture of blues is an important part of the history of America. Blues music and culture is the documentation of the resilient spirit of the African-American’s struggle to participant in the overall American dream.

The mission of the Bakersfield Blues Preservation Society is to serve as a point of connection for the general public, educational and business communities to support this true American art form. We will present the music in many forums i.e. live concerts, lectures, master classes, blues music workshops, artist residency, stage plays, Etc.

We will offer to the academic community, an opportunity to enhance their curriculum by using the simplicity of blues forms to teach unrelated subjects, i.e. mathematics, language skills, self esteem and self expression. Using the disciplines of blues as a training tool will prepare the student real life and teach them to deal with personal problem solving in a non-toxic manner. The cathartic nature of this music will free the spirit, liberate the soul and give meaning of life. The student will learn to sing life and understand its meaning.

The Bakersfield Blues Society meets every 3rd Wednesday evening of every month at 7:00-10:00 PM at: Gumbeaux’s 1804 Chester Ave. Downtown Bakersfield. At the meeting, we present rare video footage of great blues artist, live in concert: we also present historical and cultural documentation of blues music. Mr. Mike Thibodeaux, host of Gumbeaux’s and co-sponsor of the meeting, so graciously serves a very soulful buffet of delicious Cajun food. This is the perfect atmosphere to enjoy the ambience of blues music and culture.

This is your opportunity to participant in the education, presentation and preservation of one of the most important art forms America has given to the world.
