Bob's Nostalgia Dragster

We are the Andersens, Bob and Sherry. Bob is the grand-son of Anton and Juiliette Andersen, founders of Pea Soup Andersen's Restaurant in Buellton California. We are members of the Klassic Kruisers, a Reno Nevada car club, ANRA, The Good Guys, FEDs West, Standard 1320, and The Road Toads, an online car club. We have a front motor nostalgia dragster, built in the mid 1950's.

We have been showing the car since 1996 at different events in Northern Nevada and Northern Callifornia. In 1997, we purchased a 1951 Ford pickup to complete the nostalgia look.

To put forth a picture, we visualize ourselves as coming through a time warp; a 1951 pickup, pulling the front engine dragster. Let us tell you about the dragster. It was built in the mid 1950's, and ran until 1963, making appearances at the well known Southern California drag strips almost weekly. It also was the first drag car to be sponsored a non-automotive sponsor. It had a top speed of 127 mph in 10.5 seconds with the flathead, but as the need for speed increased, and being kids, we put in a 400 cu. in. Cadillac which made the car go 143 mph in 9.474 second, its very best. The car has been at Jack Mendenhall's museum and Dry Lakes Racing Hall of Fame in Buellton, California, since its retirement from drag racing. In 1963.

Thanks to Edelbrock Equipment Company and Bobby Meeks, in 1996 the car again roared to life with a new engine. Ed Iskenderian gave us a new cam, and Roger McPeeters of Cat Welding, Sonora California, rebuilt the rear end. With all of this we still cannot get through tech, and for now are content to show the car and rev the motor for the crowd, or to get a crowd. Should you see us driving the highway, just wave, don't get out of your car, because we do pull this trailer at the legal speed limit or greater. Looking forward to seeing you honk, blink your lights, or shake our hands, should we be stopped at our favorite sponsors, Pea Soup Andersen's Restaurant.

The 1998 season saw "Thru The Time Warpİ" travel over 9,000 miles, participate in 50 shows, parades, and special events, serve 5 gallons and give away 65 cases of Andersen's pea soup, talked to countless people who remember Bob, Jack, the car, and Andersen's, and met thousands of new friends.

In 1999 we slowed down with only 5000 miles and 37 events. We still gave away 80 cases of Andersen's pea soup with the help of Real Fresh Foods who cans the soup and became a major sponsor. In December 1999, we relocated to the Denver Colorado area and our Millenium Tour 2000 will be east of the Rockies.

Soon we hope to have a web site, or some facsimile thereof, but for now we can be reached at PeaSoupA@aol.com.
