Puff the Magic Wagon is my 1983 Volvo 240 Wagon. I bought this car in June of 1996, and its still going strong. Mileage on this little swede was 166,000 when I bought it for $500 from my friend Pete. Pete had originally bought it as a parts car to aid in the re-assembly of his own 240 wagon, which is also an 83. Pete's car is a lot nicer than mine, but hey, for a $500 car, what do you expect? I have rolled the odometer over to about 176,000 miles at the moment. Very recently it got a new clutch, brake rotors all around, rear calipers, and a lot of little tweaks. I will have a list of things I have done to the car up in the near future. Many people rip on Volvos, which is fine with me, we're all entitled to our own opinions. I used to hate them as well, that is, until I Welcome to My little slice of vehicular heaven. Before you look at me sideways and laugh at my love for Volvos, go look at how they are built, then come back and tell me they are crappy. I think that mainly the stereotype of Volvo drivers gives the marque a bad rap, but then again, I don't drive my SwedishBrick like the "typical" Volvo driver would. I bought my 240 wagon in June of 1996, and its nearing one year that I have had the pleasure of cruising around in my stodgy little powder blue wagon. Puff the Magic Wagon is an 83, with assorted parts from other years. I think the taillight on the right side came from an 86, the hood and right front fender are from a 78, as are many other parts. Basically what I have is a hopelessly cobbled-together car. The funny thing about it, that even surprised me, was that I was able to put it together and make it all work. There is a lot left to be done to get the car to where I want it. First thing this summer I'm going to be putting in a new clutch, overhauling the overdrive, and putting new balljoints up front. After that its just a matter of getting it all dialed in and up to snuff. Enough about my car and my exploits with it. I have a small list of Volvo associated links assembled here, and I'm going to be putting up an unofficial archive from the SwedishBricks mailing list. I'm also going to beef up what is here, since I think my pages are fairly paltry in comparison to the other stuff out there. Stay tuned there's a lot more to come. One of these days there'll even be pictures of my car up here, maybe some before the summer and after the summer stuff.
