2000

Cast: Bruce Willis, Ben Affleck (in negotiations)

Crew: Alan McElroy (screenwriter?)

Plot: Based on a script entitled "Tears of the Sun", four men are stuck in a jungle and faced with the difficult task and challenge of escaping without being killed first.

Comments: Bruce recently has revealed that he does not want to continue with all the action, explosiveness that the other 3 Die Hard films possess. By taking a break from action films, he may possibly hurt interest in the fourth one, if it is ever to be made. However, a movie about strategy and confidence is one we haven't seen for a while, so this may not be such a bad deviation after all.

2/19/99 -  Bruce Wilis recenty spoke to Playboy magazine in an interview and spoke of the new Die Hard movie. Here's a quote from the interview:

"The studios would be completely happy to have me do the same movie over and over again, but I'm sick of it. After Mercury Rising, my younger brother, a film producer, said to me, 'The three major action sequences in the film were derivative of three other films you've done.' It was a knock on the door. Time to take a break. In 1987, when I did the first Die Hard, pyrotechnics and explosions were novel. Ten years later they're tapped out. The hook on Die Hard 4 is that it's going to be low-tech. Me and three cop friends get abducted. We're taken into the Amazon and have to escape -- without all the explosions and pyrotechnics."
10/15/98 - In the same Desert News story, it is reported that Alan McElroy has turned in his script treatment for Die Hard 4. Plans are still in place to start shooting the film next year with Bruce Willis reprising his John McClane role.

6/30/98 - Well, we all feel very bad for Bruce Willis and now the separated, Demi Moore. But let's look into the future! Willis has confirmed that there will be indeed a fourth movie and that the much-rumored about jungle setting will be used. Production should begin later this year or next year. Hawaii and New Zealand are being talked about for possible filming locations. The rumors about Ben Afleck joining Willis have not been confirmed yet though.

6/22/98 - Ben Affleck (Good Will Hunting, Armageddon) joins Bruce Wilis again? According to an online interview on the ViewAskew website, "Bruce called me not long ago to ask if I'd do DH4 with him. I said to send me the script, which apparently is being written (Bruce claims, with me in mind for his partner). I liked him and would work with him again if it were the right vehicle. Apparently the next installment of the DH series is a low-concept, man-against-nature type thing in the jungles of Brazil". Hmmmmmmm.....
