BEN CHAPMAN, the original CREATURE FROM THE BLACK LAGOON, and a very dear friend, died 21 Feb 2008; I am very saddened by his death.
Ben’s preparations for his death/funeral worked out, just like he arranged it.
He wanted all his fans to know about his death, before they heard it second hand (NEWS).
He told me about the living will, no support machines allowed. That's why I have one to this very day.
He was cremated, mainly because he wanted to be a part of the island he loved so very much.
Now his funeral, with the scattering of ashes at Waikiki, is taking place a month later just like he had arranged.
BEN lived the ALOHA spirit, and unless you’ve lived on the islands it’s hard to describe it.
Ben lived the ALOHA spirit, and now he is a part of that spirit.
Anytime I go back to Waikiki/HONOLULU and walk in that sand ebbing between my toes, I’ll think of the webbed toes of a friend who was so very dear to me...and he’s still there - you just have to go to "paradise" to be with him...ALOHA FOREVER BEN!

I later found out from David Lady that it was a defected 2nd Generation reject...and the molds destroyed; you can tell by the bent fin on the back of the mask.
This was my first printing of the now famous GILLY DOLLARS.
