"The movie sees [youth] culture in such flat, unblinking
detail that it feels like a documentary; it knows what
it's talking about."
Gene Siskel
Director - Larry Clark
1995
"Kids" is Larry Clarks first feature length film. He has one other
film to his credit, entitled "Another Day In Paradise". This film should
be in theatres now.
"Kids" is a raw edged view into the
lives of a group of urban teens
throughout the course of an average,
hot summer day and night. The film,
with it's gripping, believable
dialogue and 'plain-as-day' camera
work, slaps you in the face with its
almost surreal depiction of teens
and their skateboards, violence,
drugs, parties, clubs and sex.
The movie focuses on several charecters,
each with their own habbits and feelings
and special ways of dealing with their
lives and getting what they want. The film
begins its exploration into 'their' world
by swithing back and forth between a group
of guys and a group of girls conversing
about the aspects of their lives, especially
sex.
As one of the girls finds out she has HIV, her day turns
into a hunt for the boy that gave it to her, having
knowledge of his intense promiscuity. As the movie
nears its end, Larry Clark leaves us with an
incredible climax that will leave you thinking for days.
