Title: UNFORGIVEN
Year: 1992
Genre: Western
Director: Clint Eastwood
The players: Clint Eastwood
Morgan Freeman
Richard Harris
Gene Hackman
Jaimz Woolvett
About the film: Eastwood directs himself in the leading role as an old gunfighter who dissociates himself from his earlier living as a ruthless killer. The problem is that he has no money and so is going to do one last robbery together with his old companion. Hackman won an oscar as the towns hard-handed sheriff and the film won four in total. Deeper and more thoughtful than most westerns but too slow.

Title: URBAN COWBOY
Year: 1980
Genre: Drama
Director: James Bridges
The players: John Travolta
Debra Winger
Scott Glenn
Madolyn Smith
Barry Corbin
About the film: After Travolta’s hits in the 70’s the idea was to make country music popular with this film, which failed. He plays Bud, a young macho guy who goes to live in Texas with his aunt and uncle. He works on an oil-platform and spends his spare time at Gilley’s (a large entertainment centre). The main attraction for every young man is to ride the mechanical bull (seems absurd). Bud meets good looking Cissy who he marries, but treats her bad and still only thinks of new ways to get better at riding the bull. Uninteresting and unsympathetic characters but still fairly entertaining and a good sound track.
