The Chicago Turtle Club was founded in
1988 to serve the needs of turtle and tortoise enthusiasts of all ages
who seek more information or help in maintaining the well being,
safety, and environment of their turtles or tortoises. CTC membership
is open to all with an interest in turtles or tortoises. To learn more

The
Chicago Turtle Club and you
are invited to participated in the annual North Park Village Nature
Center's City
Wilds Festival
of urban gardening, biodiversity, tours, entertainment and more. We'll
be setting our
"official"
table near the deck around 10 am on Sunday June 14. Please
bring a critter
or two suitable for an urban garden or pond.
Members
and friends with
temporary or permanent turtle enclosures for gardens or backyards are
encouraged
to set up on the grounds.
You
need not stay for the entire event on Sunday (or Saturday), so if you
like to show off a turtle
or two for an hour or two, come on down and join the festivities. We'll
have "turtle sitters" on Sunday to guard your
treasures,
so you can view and enjoy the many exhibits, demonstrations and
entertainment.

The weekend-long festival features nature crafts, lectures on
composting and landscaping with native plants, storytelling, guided
walks through the preserve, live animal presentation (Sunday only), and
more.
For those who have Saturday free, you may participate on Saturday, June
13. merely identify yourself to one of the event's volunteers and
ask for
a table. As a special treat, our own Steve Spitzer will conduct two
BioBlitz tours on Saturday.

Backyard Biodiversity”
GOT NATURE?
As part of the 2009 “City Wilds - Festival of Backyard Biodiversity”
(June 13-14) we feature an abbreviated BioBlitz on Saturday, June 13
only.
THE GOALS OF OUR BioBlitz ARE . . .
To record as many living organisms as possible in the preserve within a
14 hour period
To increase
awareness of the diverse species in this urban setting
To
better understand how to protect the natural environment for the future
To
involve families, citizen scientists, and the public in this endeavor
ALL ARE WELCOME TO PARTICIPATE!
No scientific expertise is necessary. Just bring your enthusiasm
and willingness to explore, discover and learn while having fun!

open to all ages.
Steve and Jan
Spitzer are hosting a turtle garden party for Turtle Club members and
friends on Sunday, June 21. Festivities begin at noon. last 'til dusk
or until the police arrive. Turtle races and a trek to the Indian
Boundary Zoo are planned.
Grills, plates, and plasticware provided. BYO beverages,
grillables and potluck vittles.

In June, the Chicago Turtle Club
enjoyed a guided tour of its home, the North Park Village Nature
Center. Our thanks to Mr. Robert Porter for an entertaining and

Last winter,
Kirsten Kranz joined a host of volunteers in Florida to triage over
3,000
confiscated turtles that had poured into a local rescue facility as a
result
of a massive Asian turtle confiscation. She presented her reflections
upon
those hectic Florida days at April's Chicago Turtle Club meeting. Click
