Welcome to

The CrineRing

Please note: I am new at this. I started this ring on January 17, 1999 with the help of Emmanuelle Foster and WebRing. We won't be fully functional until we have 5 members, and I iron out all the bugs.
I would also appreciate help in designing a logo for our new Ring.

Our Purpose:

The CrineRing is a central location, or Links Hub, of web pages dedicated to the research of the Criner name. Some members of the ring have been researching the Criner name for many years. Some of us are newcomers to genealogy, but have become addicted to finding lost relatives and ancestors.

About the Criners

So, far, we have found three distinct lines of Criners in America: The German line, originating in the Palatinate region of 18th Century Germany; the French Criners, originating in Northern France; and an African-American line traced back to pre-Civil War Alabama. Rumor has it that Criners left Germany in the mid 18th century, stopping off in Northern France for 50 years before emmigrating to America. However, we have not found the link between Gaspard Melchoir Baltazar Criner and the German Criners. The only possible link so far is rumors that Criners were known as Belgian glassblowers. The French Criners were still active in the glass industry up until the 1970's with my family working for PPG glass in Clarksburg, WV. Nor have we found the specific link between the African-American Criners and either the German or French Criners. But we'll keep looking. Hopefully, somebody out there can come up with the links between our families.

There are many landmarks and accounts of the early American Criners on the East Coast and their travels across the frontier. There are a couple of Criner cemeteries, one in Western TN; a Criner Street in Granview, TX; Criner Hills, Criner Valley, Criner Creek in OK and AR. Furthermore, Issac Criner and a brother are recognized as the first white men to pioneer Huntsville, AL.

Joining the CrineRing:

Joining the CrineRing is very simple. If you have a website you would like included in the Ring, you merely need to copy some code that links your page to the other members of the Ring. However, there are some rules attached to being a member.
  • Member sites must be related to Criner genealogy. If your site is devoted to another family name, it must have some link to Criners.
  • Sites must be non-profit. This is a hobby, not a business.
  • This is a family site. All info on member sites must be suitable for viewing by all age groups. No foul language, pornography, racism, etc.
  • Membership is at the discretion of the ringmaster. Any sites that violate the above conditions will be removed from the ring without prior notification.
