Much is said about battered women, domestic violence and
child abuse, and I agree that it must be stopped. No human should suffer physically, mentally or verbally at the hands of another human. But what about our seniors who are being abused every day. My mom was one of those. I called a toll free number to see what I could do about the situation, I was sent some literature and was told, as long as she was capable of making her own decision, she had to file the complaint. We could not do it for her. It was my brother who lived with her and she depended on him. He is a very angry and bitter person and made her life a living hell. Mom would not do anything about it. She lived in chaos, torment, fear
and utter misery until she took her last breath. What a happy day that was, to know she was free at last. I think the laws in my state need to be changed. If an elderly person is in an abusive situation and won't help themselves, then someone should be allowed to step in and decide for them. They need not to suffer that way.
