COUNTRY MUSIC SUPERSTAR ALAN JACKSON TO RELEASE NEW ALBUM LIKE RED ON A ROSE SEPTEMBER 26
PRODUCED BY ALISON KRAUSS FIRST SINGLE INSTANT HIT AT RADIO
ALAN JACKSON, one of country music’s most respected songwriters and singers will release LIKE RED ON A ROSE, produced by twenty-time Grammy winner ALISON KRAUSS. Exploring a variety of emotions, from the longing of the opening track “Anywhere on Earth You Are,” to the sweet tribute to a wife’s love on “Had It Not Been You,” to Jackson’s self-penned “A Woman’s Love,” to the hauntingly atmospheric title track, LIKE RED ON A ROSE will be in stores September 26. Jackson, who has sold more than 45 million albums and has 31 #1 records, is renowned for seeking creative challenges (Under the Influence, Precious Memories). LIKE RED ON A ROSE was born from his desire to do something that was “a little more about where I am in my life right now.” During a conversation between the two artists at Carnegie Hall last year, Jackson told Krauss that he’d wanted to make a bluegrass album for years. “So I finally asked Alison if she wanted to do a bluegrass album on me, and she said yeah. So we started working on it, and we did this album and there’s not a bit of bluegrass on it,” he laughs. LIKE RED ON A ROSE was recorded at Nashville’s Masterfonics over the course of the early summer. Krauss brought in songs from writers including Leon Russell, bluegrass great Sidney Cox and folkster Patrick Brayer, and from Nashville greats such as Robert Lee Castleman, who wrote the title track first single, among others. Lee Ann Womack, Dan Tyminski, and Krauss lend background vocals to the songs. Krauss assembed a diverse group of musicians from across the country to play on the album: Ron Block (Acoustic/Electric guitar), Jim Cox (Fender Rhodes, B-3 Organ, Wurlitzer), Jerry Douglas (Lap Steel Guitar/Dobro), Viktor Krauss (Electric/Acoustic bass), Howard Levy (Harmonica), Michael McDonald (Clavinet, Fender Rhodes), Joey Miskulin (Accordion), Gordon J. Mote (Piano, Fender Rhodes, B-3 Organ), Bernard Purdie (Drums), and Kenny Vaughan (Lead electric guitar). “I kinda let Alison run with this thing; it was her baby,” says Jackson. “There’s even one of my old songs that I wrote years ago (‘A Woman’s Love,’ Jackson’s sole songwriting credit on the album). It doesn’t sound anything like the original, but she made a cool record out of it.” LIKE RED ON A ROSE is Alan Jackson’s first mainstream country album since 2004’s WHAT I DO. Jackson has released fifteen albums, fourteen of which have sold Platinum or multi-Platinum. He is the most nominated artist in CMA history and is a critical and fan favorite. “…within him rests the heart and conscience of modern country music,” says the Los Angeles Times.
