The selectors for this team are Vinnie Murray, Johnny Curry and Cathrine Touhy. Michael O'Hara is the assistant trainer.
Some dissappointing news to report, the minors' road to glory ended at Fraher Field on Sunday 5th October with a four point defeat at the hands of Ardmore. The lads lost on a scoreline of 0-10 to 2-08. Rathgormack were missing Brendan Crotty (Damaged Liver), Willie O'Brien (Ankle injury - who was also injured for the Eastern Hurling Final) in defence and Stephan Hunt (playing Soccer for Munster Schools). Derek Whealan was also suffering from a reoccurrance of his thigh injury and was sidelined with a view to coming on.
The game, played in front of an attendance in the region of 6,000 began with some brisk attacking play from the Ardmore and they stamped their authority on the game early on. Rathgormack were slow to settle and were behind from the start. Ardmore hit the "Village" with two "sucker-punch" goals midway through the first half when it looked like the game might turn out to be a close run affair. Ardmore went in with a half-time lead of 2-04 to 0-04 after being leading by 9 points at one stage (2-04 to 0-01). Paul Power kept Rathgormack in the game with a string of points from frees.
Rathgormack stepped up the pressure in the second half with a couple more points to cut the deficit to 4 but some glorious place kicking from the "45" by Ardmore's Seamus Prendergast killed off the Rathgormack challange. Rathgormack actually finished the strongest and would look back on missed goal chances midway through the second half as being critical. Aidan Power and Simon Kenny being thwarted by the goalie, the latter being absolutely essential as it rebounded off the post when Rathgormack trailed by six.
The minor team had reached the "A" county final for the first time in 62 YEARS. Back then the club was going through a "split" and one half, going by the name of the Mountain Rovers, beat Stradbally in the 1935 final.
Under the guidance of Vinnie Murray the team had to settle for training seesions over most of the summer as the first three games were walkovers.
When finally their championship "began" it was against Tramore, fortunately the lads (with home advantage) played very well in the second half to record a comprehensive victory by ten points.
This was in spite of being under prolonged pressure by the Tramore attack when the lead was cut to a single point. Some brilliant defending by Brendan Crotty in goal and Robbie Kenny at full back kept the team in the game and when Stephan Hunt finally made his entrance the game swung the other way for the last time.
Goals by "Hunty" and David Vaughan (a screamer from 30 yards) sent the homesters into an Eastern semi-final meeting with the Kill side, St. Mary's.
That game was played in Portlaw with good displays by Victor O'Shea and Paul Power at midfield, Hatchet Kennedy at centre-back and Stephan Hunt in the attack. The result was a win by a large margin (3-15 to 2-02) and set Rathgormack up with a meeting against Tramore again, who had a surprise win over Gaultier.
In a tight affair, again at Portlaw, Rathgormack won by a single goal to set up a County final showdown with Ardmore, finalists from last year. Rathgormack were missing the influential Paul Power at midfield but Edmond Hogan did admirably well, aided by every player on the field.
Rathgormack lost the services of goalie Brendan Crotty with a nasty injury to the Monadiha man when he tried to prevent a Tramore goal.
