Food:
the easy kosher cooking classIt is customary on this minor holiday to eat some fresh fruits, especially ones that grow in Israel such as grapes, oranges, dates, and so on, and/or to have a fruit-containing dessert such as cake, pie or cookies. Here a delicious Waldorf Salad containing apples, raisins and walnuts.
And for those who love pie, but hate or have no time to fuss with a crust, a dessert that is like an apple pie, but so much easier to make.
Apple Crisp

Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Combine apples, cinnamon, nutmeg, white sugar, and flour. Put into a 9 inch pie pan. Sprinkle with the lemon juice and water. Combine topping ingredients and mix well. Sprinkle on top of apples. Pat down slightly. Bake 45 minutes, or until apples are tender. Serves six.
