Robey/Robie/Roby Family Association
The Family History From Early England To America
Castle Donington, England as it might have looked in about the year 1300.
The Robey/Robie/Roby Family Association is a non-
profit organization that was
formed in 1994 and has grown in this short
time to a membership of two
hundred and ninety families. It is dedicated
to the research and preservation of
the family history for all future generation.
If you would like information on our family association you can contact
Joy
Robey Klingaman, Secretary/Treasurer
or William G
Robey, President. The association has
a great newsletter which is sent out
twice a year and we also sponsor a national
family reunion every two years.
I’m sorry to say the Family Reunion scheduled for October 17, 18 and 19 2008 in Maryland has been canceled due to the lack of interest.
The Roby Key House in Castle Donington, England.

This is a photo of the Roby Key House in Castle Donington, England that we think was taken in about 1890. This photo is in the possession (in 16 x 20 inch size) of Clinton Robie of Savona, NY. Clinton Robie sent Bill Robey this copy after Bill had expressed an interest when he visited with him earlier this year. Clinton Robie said the picture has been in his family for many years.

The Australia Connection
Can you help us find the connection from an Australia branch of the family to our main Robey line in Castle Donington, England. George Robey and his family can trace their family line back to John Robey, born 1765 in Melbourne, Derbyshire, England. Melbourne is only about five miles from Castle Donington so we think that there is likely a connection to our main Robey family. Please look through this family line and see if you can help.
You can contact George Robey if you have any information that would help.

This fine example of the Robey 6 nhp compound design is a three-speed engine with overhead slide valves. This example has been with the same family since new in 1910, over the years being used on threshing and other agricultural work as well as stone-crushing. The engine is owned by F.B. Gibbons & Sons Ltd and it was seen on the rally fields with the same driver for fifty years in both working and preservation days.
Here is a great website with more information on these great Robey steam vehicles. The Robey Trust Limited
The Robie Country Store has been approved for entry on the National Register of Historic Places.

The Chelmsford Historical Commission has put together a great history of Christopher Roby and the factory where he made the Roby Sword for use in the Civil War. I have been looking for a sword myself since I saw the one our newsletter editor Francis brought to a reunion several years ago. What a great piece of Roby history to have!
