The Kelly/Myers Genealogy Homepage

We are glad you've found us on the web! I am Richard James Kelly III, originally of Lynn, Essex Co., Massachusetts and my wife (and most amiable consort) is the former Denise M. Myers, originally of Lebanon, Warren Co., Ohio. This site is the result of several years' work researching and compiling our family histories. If you are an old hand at genealogy, then you know how much excitement, care and wonder is contained within these pages for us. If you are new to the hunt, then welcome to a long and rewarding journey to discover a little bit about your ancestors and a whole lot about yourself.

"History" is ever told in the present in an attempt to organize the past into concise stories for current sensibilities. The history one relates will always reflect one's own values and historical context. This can and has been over-looked in genealogical research. Not only time, but land, changes, and it may well be impossible for us, here in this amazing 21st Century, to recreate the feelings of our ancestors, looking out at a New England winter, circa 1670.

Still, we do feel our lives to be enriched by the pursuit of genealogy. Whether it it the past reaching out to us, or the magesty of a journey requiring generations to complete, I now see myself as part of a continuity. Genealogy does not get far without a touch of empathy. I began to investigate my family's history several years ago when, in the course of speaking briefly with family members, it became clear to me that we were beginning to forget some of the oral traditions. The family stories one aunt told did not jibe with the stories told by another. The yearly Memorial Day trip to tend to the burial plots of relatives begged the obvious question: "Just who were these people?" As the years rolled on, however, I could see memories fading, momentos lost, traditions losing their magic sway.

The wonderful fact is that people are people all the world over. You'll find some rakes and some saints in these files. Of course, people are also products of their times, and some understanding of the historical contexts of these individuals may be necessary for a real appreciation of their lives. To that end, I've attempted to include links to other sites with some relevant information where it's appropriate. Please jump right in and have a look around.

The lines are organized by the ancestry of each of our grandparents for ease of file handling and contain only the direct ancestry as far back as we can confirm, or at least defend. We have attempted to make a note where the facts become vague, or no proof of descent is available. Please let us know if any data we have conflicts with your own research. Source material is noted throughtout the genealogies. Bear in mind many printed family genealogies are the product of wishful thinking or of a generous dose of benefit of the doubt.

Please understand that we are not professional genealogists and any statements made on this web site should not be regarded as definitive. In this computer age we all run the risk of spreading much false information. A printed resource like this one must not be taken as proof of lineage. In some cases we have had to make logical assumptions which may well be proved incorrect in years to come.

If you have a specific name you're looking for, click on the relevant link below and, once the genealogy report has loaded onto your screen, use your browser's Find feature.

We've also added some maps of North America and Europe which include links to our major surnames. This will allow you to search for your ancestors by the state or country in which they may have lived.
