Katelyn's Page
Hello! My name is Katelyn and I was born a preemie. Don't worry, it's not as bad as you might think. After I was born I was able to meet a lot of really nice people that helped to care for me along with my mom and dad. At first I was in a really noisy place they called the neonatal intensive care unit. There were many other babies in there just like me. Myself and the other babies were able to get some much needed rest and time to grow during our stay in the NICU. I had a machine that helped me to breath so that I would not tire out and was even fed through a needle in my foot. My mom and dad tell me that there was not much of me that was not hooked up to some type of sensor or other medical device in those first couple of days. As time passed and I was allowed to rest and grow stonger the doctors and nurses started to remove some of my "hardware" and I began to look more like a normal, but still small, baby. I finally was allowed to go home when I weighed 4 lbs. 9 ozs. and boy was that an exciting day even though I was still hooked up to an oxygen tank that went everyplace with me. My life since has been pretty normal except for one surgery to repair some hernias and another to straighten my eye alingnment so that I can see normally (both pretty common among us preemies, so I am told). I am now a "big" girl that loves to play and no longer needs any special care. I just celebrated my second birthday in February 2000. If you would like to see some pictures of me from the day I was born until recently click on the next button below. If you have a question for my mom and dad or would just like to chat please click on the mailbox as I am sure that they would love to hear from you.
