We were lucky enough to find
a book called "The Book Of Dogs" by Stanley West, as far as we can see
from dates mentioned within the text it is from the 30's. The book
contains photos of many different breeds. Quite a few of them have changed
some are exactly the same.
If there is a particular breed
that you would like to see or the standard of the day then drop us a line
and we will endevour to send it or put it on the site. I supose that many
of our "experts" of today will decry what is written but we believe that
we can all learn from the past, or just enjoy the read.

Scottish Collie

Although this type is larger than the Shetland Sheepdog, it seems to respond to other kinds of training rather better. One kennel I have visited regularly sends representative dogs to compete in intelligence tests and trials and on more than one occasion has taken the laurels, beating a score of other dogs, including Alsations, Great Danes and other canine competitors.

The
Welsh Collie
(quoted
from the book)

This little fellow is wonderfully intelligent and will herd large flocks of sheep with unfailing precision. Their small size makes it possible to go through a flock to single out the leader in order to effect a drive in record time. Should the reader have visited a Sheepdog Trial, he will have marvelled at the speed with which the dog works. Apart from this almost natural function, which of course has to be improved by training, they make excellent pets and again are of the "One Man, One Dog" nature. It is fairly safe to assume that they are strongly related to the Shetland Sheepdog, but are somewhat larger in size.
