Turtle Puppet
Materials: 4ply yarn, 2oz. dark green, 2oz. light green, small amounts of black; size G crochet hook; polyester stuffing; yarn needle
Instructions:
Body Top:
With dark green, ch 4
Rnd 1: 11dc in 4th ch from hook, join. (12dc, counting first ch3 as 1 dc)
Rnd 2: Ch 3, dc in same st as joining, 2dc in each dc around, join.
Rnd 3: Ch 3, 2dc in next st, (1dc in next st, 2dc in next st) repeat around, join.
Rnd 4: Ch 3, 1dc in next st, 2dc in next st, (1dc in each of next 2dc, 2dc in next st) repeat around, join.
Rnd 5: Ch 3, dc in each dc around, join.
Rnd 6: Ch 3, 1dc in each of next 2 sts, 2dc in next st, (1dc in each of next 3dc, 2dc in next st) repeat around, join.
Rnd 7: Ch 3, 1dc in each of next 3 sts, 2dc in next st, (1dc in each of next 4dc, 2dc in next st) repeat around, join.
Rnd 8 & 9: Repeat Rnd 5. Fasten off.
Body Bottom:
Rnd 1- 4: Repeat Rnd 1-4 of Body Top.
Rnd 5 & 6: Repeat Rnd 6 & 7 of Body Top.
After last Rnd join body bottom to body top with sc all the way around, stuff body as you work.
Head:
With light green, ch 4
Rnd 1: Repeat Rnd 1 of Body Top.
Rnd 2: Repeat Rnd 3 of Body Top.
Rnd 3-5: Ch 3, dc in each dc around, join.
Rnd 6: Ch 3, 1dc in each of next 4 sts, (1dc dec) 4 times, 1dc in each of remaining 5 sts, join.
Rnd 7: Ch 3, 1dc in each of next 4 sts, (1dc dec) 2 times, 1 dc in each of remaining 5 sts, join.
Rnd 8-10: Ch 3, 1dc in each dc around, join.
Stuff head and sew in place on body.
Tail:
With light green, ch 4
Row 1: Dc in 4th ch from hook, turn.
Row 2: Ch 3, dc in same st as ch3, dc in remaining st, turn.
Row 3: Ch3, dc in same st as ch3, dc in remaining sts. Finish off, leaving a 6" piece of yarn.
Fold tail in half lengthwise, thread needle with 6" strand and sew seam. Sew tail in place.
Legs: (Make 4)
With light green, ch 4.
Rnd 1: 7dc in 4th ch from hook, join.
Rnd 2: Ch 3, 2dc in next st, (1 dc in next st, 2dc in next st) repeat around, join.
Rnd 3 & 4: Ch 3, dc in each dc around, join.
Rnd 5: Ch 3, 1 dc in each of next 3 sts, (1dc dec) twice, 1 dc in remaining 4 sts, join.
Rnd 6: Ch 3, 1 dc in each of next 2 sts, (1 dc dec) twice, 1 dc in remaining 3 sts, join. Finish off.
Stuff firmly, sew legs in place.
Puppet Pocket:
Make same as Body Bottom, using light green. Sew around bottom leaving an opening for hand.
Join light green with a sl st to opening and sc 2 rows around opening to finish off.
