Phil's McKinstry family are descended from William McKinstry, who emigrated from Ireland to Boston in 1740 and settled in what became Sturbridge, MA. This William McKinstry is quite likely descended from the same Scottish family as the larger Rev. John McKinstry and Captain John McKinstry families who also settled in Massachusetts in the 18th century. There was additionally a McKinstry from Ireland who settled in Pennsylvania. The descendants of Rev. John McKinstry are in a published genealogy, available through one of the on-line genealogy re-publishing companies. William's family is covered principally in a little book by Willis published in the NEHGS.
