Ballinger, Texas has a population of 4,700. Ballinger was established in 1886. Ballinger is proud of her beautiful well kept 20 acre tree shaded City Park located along Elm Creek. Ballinger has two "City Lakes" with recreational areas, RV hookups, and some of the best fishing in Texas. Also, it is located close to O.H. Ivie Resevoir. It is located 35 miles east/northeast of San Angelo, Texas, and 55 miles due south of Abilene Texas. The main industry in the area is agriculture, with cattle ranching and row crops being the primary crops grown. The Cross was erected by Brother Jim Studer, his wife, Doris, and his family as a thank you to God for all the blessings bestowed upon them during their life, particularly the time they have been in Texas. The Cross, a 100 foot Christian monument, erected in 1993, can be seen from miles around, lighted at night. Privately erected for public appreciation. At The Cross also are several other areas. There is a Grotto in honor of the Virgin of Guadalupe, meditation benches, and a personal Memorial to the Unborn. For more information, go to the homepage for
