Mersing is small town facing the South China Sea. It's the town East of Johor. Mersing has a population of 60 000 people. It's about 175 km from Johor Bahru, the capital of Johor. Its known for the infamous Tioman Island. The town itself is just facing the sea and thus it's beaches are most beautiful. Part of the people still works as fishermen. And if you're looking for fresh fish, you can find it in Mersing except when the sea is rough (October till February). At this time, the wind is blowing from the South China Sea and Pulau Tioman is also unaccessable.

Beside the Tioman Island there are a few islands which are just as beautiful; Pulau Sibu, Pulau Besar, Pulau Aur, Pulau Tinggi, Pulau Pemanggil. Pulau Sibu which is about 15 minutes boat ride from Tanjung Leman, is a growing tourist attraction for its beautiful beach and the coral reaves.

Mersing has his mosque located on top of a small hill in the town. At night the beauty of it's dome could be seen from as far as five kilometers away. The word 'Mersing' is also located at the peak of the hill making it quite a fascinating site especially at night.

Those who are not keen to go to the island can always enjoy the beaches. Mersing also has its beautiful beaches namely, Pantai Air Papan and Pantai Penyabung. Pantai Air Papan is quite a popular beach among the local and also Singaporeans. It's about 14 km from mersing town, on the way to Kuantan. You can also stay overnight at the local beach chalet. Further away is Pantai Penyabung at Endau, a small town on the way to Kuantan, 35 km from here. The scenary are breathtaking.
