What is ergonomics...and why is it important?
Ergonomics is the science of fitting jobs to people. It focuses on designing workstations, tools and work tasks for safety, efficiency and comfort. Effective ergonomic design reduces discomfort and injuries and increases job satisfaction and productivity.
Can the job you love also be a pain in the neck?
Yes, say Ergonomics Experts around the world. ErgoWorks can provide you with "Ergo-friendly "solutions to a variety of work-related problems. Our goal is to fit work stations to workers to make jobs safer, more comfortable and more efficient.
Who can benefit from ergonomics? Any worker who works in awkward postures or lifts heavy loads can be at risk of injury. Landscapers, stevedores, mechanics, truck drivers and others who bend and lift regularly can benefit from lifting training. Office workers should be aware of the proper selection and use of office equipment. Most accidents occur in the form of slow-forming strains associated with poor body mechanics and repetitive motions.
What are common job injuries that can be reduced with good ergonomics?
Injuries affecting muscles, tendons, ligaments, joints, nerves and discs can be reduced or eliminated with ergonomics. These injuries are frequently called MusculoSkeletal Disorders (MSD's), Repetitive StrainInjuries (RSI's) and Cumulative Traunma Disorders (CTD's).
