Jesse's Politics

November 3, 1998...

"And this has been an amazing match! No one expected this to happen! Jesse The Body Ventura body slams Hubert Humphrey and Norm Coleman! Ooo! That's got to hurt! Now Ventura is getting up to the top rope! Oh no! And DOWN he comes on top of Humphrey and Coleman! This could be it!!! Here comes the count!

1! 2! 3!!!!!

OH MY GOSH LADIES AND GENTLEMEN!!! IT'S THE UPSET OF THE CENTURY! JESSE THE BODY VENTURA WINS!"

"Here is your winner, and NEW Governor of Minnesota, Jesse "The Body" VENTURA!!!!"

That's right! He won! ust think, some day we could be President Jesse Ventura!! He's the only guy that can piledrive his opponents...literally. His victory was one of the biggest political upsets of all time, NO ONE expected Ventura to win. Someone on CNN said "there must be something in the water in Minnesota." Not even Ventura expected to win, he was seen during the day in jeans and Minnesota Timberwolves jacket. Brokaw asked him if Jesse will be Governor Ventura or Governor "The Body". He said he's no longer Jesse "The Body" Ventura but now Jesse "The Mind" Ventura. USA Today's headline was "Ventura puts headlock on governor's race". Supporters say they voted for him cause 1. He's moderate, and 2. He'll give Minnesota some publicity. His biggest crowd was males ages 18-40. Imagine that?

Jesse's Wrestling, Acting, and Military Careers

Jesse served in the Navy for six years. He was on active duty for four of those years, and is also a Vietnam Veteran. While on active duty, he was a member of the Navy SEALS. After he was honorably discharged, he attended Hennepin Community College before starting his career as a professional wrestler. The career as a wrestler for Jesse took a lot of twists and turns. He ended up as the WWF's color commentator; where he would enter into the Hall of Fame as one of the best commentators in WWF history.

Jesse's original name was James Janos. He needed a change though to start off his pro wrestling career. He said he always wanted the name Jesse, and the name Ventura came from Ventura County, California. He originally went with the nickname "Surfer Jesse Ventura". However soon people started calling him "the Body" because of his physique. He then changed his nickname to be known as Jesse "the Body" Ventura. Jesse Ventura was a great wrestler, and with Adrian Adonis in the old AWA, as part of the East-West connection in which he won the tag title. He also at one time was feud with Hulk Hogan in the WWF. Jesse quickly became one of the major wrestlers that the WWF could use against the popular Hulk Hogan. Ventura always wanted to be known as the bad guy in wrestling, he said he loved walking into an arena and getting booed by every person there. Jesse's famous finishing move was "the Body Vice". Ventura was also a great talker and got himself known in that respect. That could be part of the reason he was so good in the debates for governor. The WWF hired Ventura to do a talk-show following after 80's legend "Rowdy" Roddy Piper (Piper's Pit) called "The Body Shop".

In 1987, Jesse Ventura's wrestling career was cut short. The official reason that was that he had been exposed to "agent orange" in Vietnam and due to health reasons could not wrestle anymore. However some reports are that he had an injury to his rib cage and if he wrestled anymore his lung could collapse.

Ventura was offered a color commentating job with the WWF and he took it. He quickly became the greatest color man pro wrestling has ever seen. He wound up as the co-host of Prime Time Wrestling with Gorilla Monsoon.

As Jesse became more popular as an actor, he began to appear less and less on the WWF. He was taken off of Prime Time Wrestling when he was filming the movie "Predator", and never returned to Prime Time Wrestling.

Ventura got a call from the WCW, and decided to make a return to the world of commentating for pro wrestling. Jesse worked for WCW for a few years, and he once again retired from wrestling.

Since then, he's been the mayor of Brooklyn Park, Minnesota's 6th biggest city from 1991-1995 and also a volunteer football coach for three years. He has a wife, Terry, who he has been married to for over 22 years, a daughter Jade, and a son Tyrel.
