Jesse and Gorilla.mp3 Ventura & Monsoon comment on a match (46 K)

Jesse's original name was James Janos. He needed a change though to start off his pro wrestling career. He said he always wanted the name Jesse, and the name Ventura came from Ventura County, California. He originally went with the nickname "Surfer Jesse Ventura". However soon people started calling him "the Body" because of his physique. He then changed his nickname to be known as Jesse "the Body" Ventura. Jesse Ventura was a great wrestler, and with Adrian Adonis in the old AWA, as part of the East-West connection in which he won the tag title. He also at one time was feud with Hulk Hogan in the WWF. Jesse quickly became one of the major wrestlers that the WWF could use against the popular Hulk Hogan. Ventura always wanted to be known as the bad guy in wrestling, he said he loved walking into an arena and getting booed by every person there. Jesse's famous finishing move was "the Body Vice". Ventura was also a great talker and got himself known in that respect. That could be part of the reason he was so good in the debates for governor. The WWF hired Ventura to do a talk-show following after 80's legend "Rowdy" Roddy Piper (Piper's Pit) called "The Body Shop".
In 1987, Jesse Ventura's wrestling career was cut short. The official reason that was that he had been exposed to "agent orange" in Vietnam and due to health reasons could not wrestle anymore. However some reports are that he had an injury to his rib cage and if he wrestled anymore his lung could collapse.
Ventura was offered a color commentating job with the WWF and he took it. He quickly became the greatest color man pro wrestling has ever seen. He wound up as the co-host of Prime Time Wrestling with Gorilla Monsoon.
As Jesse became more popular as an actor, he began to appear less and less on the WWF. He was taken off of Prime Time Wrestling when he was filming the movie "Predator", and never returned to Prime Time Wrestling.
Ventura got a call from the WCW, and decided to make a return to the world of commentating for pro wrestling. Jesse worked for WCW for a few years, and he once again retired from wrestling.
Since then, he's been the mayor of Brooklyn Park, Minnesota's 6th biggest city from 1991-1995 and also a volunteer football coach for three years. He has a wife, Terry, who he has been married to for over 22 years, a daughter Jade, and a son Tyrel.
