Computer Collage

Objectives:

Project Components:

After an introduction to computer components, students will participate in collecting pictures of computer devices for a collage. In groups of three or four, students will collect pictures, identify them, and identify whether they are input, output, or storage devices. Each group will be given a piece of posterboard or cardboard. It is up to the group to decide how to arrange the board and create the design. Some groups may wish to cut out the board into the shape of a computer or to create three-dimensional objects that can be hung from the ceiling.

Teachers should provide a wide assortment of newspapers, advertisements, and magazines to use in the project. Each group is responsible for maintaining a list of the items they find for their collage and should indicate to which category that device belongs.

Each group is required to obtain pictures of at least three different types of computers and as many input, output, and storage devices as are needed to cover the board.

Examples of different computers: Tower system, desktop, notebook, laptop, etc.

Examples of input devices: Keyboard, mouse, joystick, touchpad, light pen, touch screen, trackball, pointing stick, scanner, etc.

Examples of output devices: Laser printer, dot matrix printer, inkjet printer, monitor, speakers, LCD panel, etc.

Examples of storage devices: Floppy disk, hard drive, CD-ROM, digital video disk, CD-R, CD-E, magnetic tape, etc.

Notes:

Be sure to specify the required size for the collage so that all teams will have to collect enough pictures to cover an equal amount of space.
