Welcome to CRAZY COLLEGE, the last bastion of all musics odd, silly, or forgotten; anything from Stan Freberg to Allan Sherman, from Weird Al Yankovick to Spike Jones, from Noel Coward to Sir Harry Lauder, from The Foremen to..well, let's just leave it at that...Odd Instruments, Instrumentals, musicals, kids' records, stereo demonstration Lps, ephemera from Vaudeville, Tv, and Films, just about anything that makes one shake one's head up and down and even sideways.

Look for a return to WDIY for CRAZY COLLEGE in some crazy late-night slot before the end of Summer! Or better yet listen for it.

...We were saddened to learn that entendre comedian Ruth Wallis died right before Christmas. Read her obit here: http://www.playbill.com/news/article/113764.html.

…The cd says “tracks produced from the original masters” but I can hear what sounds an awful lot like surface noise of the first two tracks. And making matters worse the whole thing has been bathed in reverb, reviving a scam of stereo re-processing that went out of fashion years ago. Just as disappointing as the cd reprocessing, is the material itself, Ruth trying to go mainstream in all but a few tracks here. “Bill,” “My Children are My Treasure:” if you never hear those two tracks, you’re all the better for it. Why won’t someone release Ruth right, straight from the “original masters” even if it’s just a real good transfer from Lps, album for album? Sadly, the late Ruth Wallis’ legacy is not to be found here…

It's official! Crazy College favorite Roy Zimmerman of the Foreman will make his Delaware premiere at Fellowship Hall at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship on 420 Willa Rd in Newark on Friday July 25! Only $15!! Hear him on a special Crazy College edition this Sunday (20th) on WVUD only!!!...

Just got the Jerry Colonna cd. Pretty good transfers from what sounds like the original 78s. Is it a quasi-legal release? The laughs are legit enough...

More on Colonna when I air my interview with his son in the fall. Get his book on the old man while you can.

Here's the picture cover for an incredably rare double-A side 45 from Senor Wences. You'll get to hear it here on a special Crazy College Preview on Shokus Internet Radio that airs starting Monday, June 30 at 10 EDT, 7 PM PT. Thanks to the generosity of Delaware broadcast legend Roger Holmes for the record. The back of the picture sleeve is just as nice

We note with sadness the passing of Tom Poston. Born on Oct 12, 1921, he made us laugh until the end on April, 2007. Tom was always a welcome sight on any sit-com. But I think his most memorable work was on the Steve Allen Show where was a "Man in the Street" who couldn't remember his own name. Here's a great cover of Tom from the Valentine's Day edition of Harvey Kurttzman's "Help!" Magazine......

"Howdoyado, everybody, howdoyado?" Billy Jones and Ernie Hare, The Happiness Boy, singing about Interwoven Socks. They recorded a lot of great comedy 78s in the 1920s and can be heard all too often on Crazy College

I remeber when Calvert "performed" at the University of Delaware in the late 1980s. His rider required a bark-o-lounger and a bottle of scotch on stage, which was really the gym forecourt with a hundred folding chairs around. A student was selected to hold his cue cards which he read with continuingly demishing success as he drank more and more of his scotch while reclining in his bark-o-lounger. When the bottle was finsihed, so was the show - and him. A pleasant time was had by all.
