Rod Hockey At It's Best!
ALL ABOUT THE CARLSON CUP ROD HOCKEY LEAGUE
2003 CCHL playoff pre-views
Slugs: The Slugs have relied heavily on John Cutter the slugs #1 goal tender this year. He has been playing one of his best seasons ever. He may never beat his rookie year record of only allowing 139 goals all season, but he is playing some of the best hockey of his career. The powerhouse offense combined of Sergi Kovas, Sphengunta Gadarski and Steve Borasso continue to wreak havoc on the CCHL. And the Slugs defensive line has one of the top two defensive lines in the league in competition only with the Gnomes defensive combo. This team holds most all the firepower in the CCHL. The only way this team can be beat is if the opposing team can take control of the puck immediately off face-offs and then put some pucks in the net. This team has no real weakness this season. Just keep it in their zone and keep putting shots on goal.
Warning: The Warning, the legendary Cinderella story of the CCHL. In the 2001 season this team couldn’t hit 500 if its life depended on it. But now the Warning are a force beyond measure. This team is not a high goal scoring team, but the goals they get are goals that count. They are known to shut teams down with the all mighty “Whale” working the poles. The Warning club continues to impress their fans with the abilities of the “Whale”. The “Whale” is having his best season ever, and not only that but with only one week remaining in regular season he has managed to only allow 140 goals that is a 184 goal difference from the 2002 season and a 229 goal difference than the 2001 season! The key to defeating this team is to figure out the “Whale”. If you can find a goal scoring technique that works on this team stick with it! Find his weakness and pour the pressure on it!
Spades: The Spades have been playing solid hockey all season long. This team is running consistent defenses as well as offense. Unfortunately for the Spades Egor, the Spades #1 keeper, has been playing a little shaky this season. He is currently ranked 8th of all CCHL goaltenders. The more shots taken on Egor, the more quality chances one will find. The Spades tend to give up allot of rebounds in front of the net. If you continue to crash the net you have a good chance of getting some quality goal scoring opportunities. Nevertheless, do not underestimate this teams offensive and defensive abilities. They haven’t been in second or third the entire season for nothing! This team knows how to put points on the board when it really matters. Not to mention the Spades are still hungry after last year’s play-off disappointment. Look for this team to finally, after two consecutive playoff appearances, advance beyond round one. Unfortunately for the Spades, they must play their archenemies, the Meatballs in round one. This will be the game to watch!
Johns: This is an incredible hockey club! This being their rookie season is a feat of its own not to mention currently holding the 4th seed position for playoffs! Unlike every other team in the playoffs this season the Johns are a weak-side team. The Johns are perfectionists on the goal view left side unlike all other teams who favor goal view right side. Ian is left-handed and finds most his power on the weak side. This is difficult for most teams due to the fact that most teams are used to the majority of shots coming from the right side. Watch for most his goal-scoring coming from your left! This team plays good defense and goal tending as well as offense, but watch for the centering feed from the left because that combination from Blain to Wallace is what kills the dreams of most teams.
HISTORY
The CCHL was originated in 1989. The original founders of the Carlson Cup League were Randy Carlson, Chuck Carlson and Mike Carlson. The league was only in action for a few years before it fell apart. They played 80 game seasons with playoff's and a championship cup. Until recently the league was in rest. The nephew of the originators, Nick Carlson, took interest in this extraordinary game and restarted the league with his home town buddies. This formed the new and improved CCHL rod hockey league. The "Original Six" of the reestablishment of the CCHL were, Nick Carlson, Chad Cantrall, Brett Smith, Asa Carr, Mike Haynes and Rob Szczney. The 2001 season began the reestablishment of the CCHL. Currently the League is seeking expansion teams and will continue to expand the league.
What is Rod Hockey?
Rod hockey is a hockey game with metal rods with gear mechanisms to spin the hockey men enabling them to spin and shoot the puck. IF you have ever seen the Bud light commercials, you may have seen the bubble boys. These bubble boys are the same hockey players for the CCHL rod hockey league.
