Welcome to the Home Page of the Training Ship Achilles Sea Cadet Corps
unit. This site has been constructed to provide information about our ship,
the Sea Cadet Corps, and the New Zealand Cadet Forces.
The site is most easily navigated by the button bar in the lower window
for frame viewers or by the contents strip at the bottom of every page.
This site is always under construction, and comments are welcome. Contact
the appropriate Officer listed in our contact section,
or sign our guestbook.
Accept the Sea Cadet Challenge and a new world of adventurous activities
will open up to you. The aim of the Sea Cadet Corps is to provide adventure,
challenge, and fun for boys and girls aged 12 to 18 (or 10 to 12 for Dolphins),
to complement their home and school education and to give them a head start.
The Sea Cadets have a track record of more than 65 years of effective and
responsible youth training. On one evening a week and at weekends between
February and December, more than 300 Sea Cadets are learning lessons - for
life.
Sea Cadets is a youth organisation drawing on the long traditions of
the Navy. Cadets are members of the New Zealand Cadet Forces which promote
an awareness of the Armed forces and the role they play in the community.
TS Achilles is a training establishment which is part of the New Zealand
Cadet Forces. It is a voluntary, disciplined, uniformed training organisation
for youth.
The organisation is not part of the New Zealand Defence Force, but is administered
by the NZDF and is supported in partnership by the Community, the Government,
and the Defence Force.
The Aim of the Sea Cadet Corps is to provide adventure, challenge and fun for young adults to complement their home and school education and to give them a head start.
There is a small fee of $20.00 which is paid per term. The uniform is provided free of charge. The only other costs associated with Sea Cadets are for camps and extra activities. Financial assistance can be considered under difficult circumstances.
Every Wednesday night from 6:30pm to 9:30pm. We have regular weekend activities such as sailing usually on Sundays. Other Parades may come up from time to time which cadets are required to attend.
Our Training Programme is based on the pursuit of excellence and achievement - to help cadets develop a positive outlook, maturity, self confidence, and a belief in their ability to reach goals which are essential for good citizens and leaders.
Officers and Instructors have been carefully chosen by selection boards and thoroughly trained. Most have gone through the cadet ranks themselves.
