Dispersion of the Funds of the OHPC 2009

The OHPC dispersed $5200 of its funds in 2008. A motion to extend this program into 2009 was passed unanimously at the AGM in April 2009 because $2,800 of the funds committed in 2008 were not dispersed during that year. The 2009 program will parallel last yearŐs program except that each 2008 member will be allocated $250 in 2009 and the dates for the various deadlines have been changed.

Member pilots have until 30 June to submit candidate activities for consideration by the BoD. Those candidate activities can be submitted to any of the directors.

The BoD will publish those activities that are approved by 15 July. Members will then have until 31 September to identify which activity they wish their voucher to be applied against. The BoD will then see to it that the selected activities are funded as per memberŐs wishes. A member can support more than one candidate activity up to a total of $250.

The following are some guidelines in identifying initiatives:

  • The initiative must be directly linked to hang gliding and/or paragliding;
  • The initiative must not be for profit. In other words, the initiative cannot support a school or other for-profit organization, whether they are incorporated or not;
  • Examples of initiatives include, but are not limited to:
    • Purchase of equipment (winch, line retrieve vehicle, tow line, etc.)
    • Rental of local for a hang gliding or paragliding activity
    • Lease or purchase of a towing field
    • Pay for a third-party seminar/course that has relevance to our sports (e.g. first aid course, parachute packing course, soaring seminar)

Club History

Our past president, Mr. Shannon Suzuki, has written an article about the history of our club, and free flight in the Ottawa area. It is hoped that this will be a living document that will continue to chronicle our activities going forward. Thanks very much Shannon for putting this together.
