Greetings to all YLRL members! As some of you know, the YLRL Convention in 1999 will be held in the Southern California area and be hosted by the Ladies Amateur Radio Association of Orange County, ably assisted by the YL Radio Club of Los Angeles.

Our committee, after viewing several locations, has decided on the Queen Mary in Long Beach. The dates will be July 30th and 31st, 1999. The hotel has all up to date amenities, 365 staterooms, plus the rare experience of staying amid history aboard the largest, most luxurious ocean liner, the Queen Mary. We hope a lot of you will want to stay aboard as the rates are comparable to others we checked, $79 to $104 single or double occupancy, plus 12% occupancy tax. There will be a $15.00 charge for rollaway bed for third person. Bear in mind the rooms are twin, queen or king beds and three people to a room are about max, unless you go to a suite, which is over $300, so two rooms is a better deal. We have blocked 45 rooms which will give us enough comp to pay for our registration, hospitality, banquet and meeting rooms. Each attendee is responsible for booking for their rooms and paying to the Queen Mary. When making your reservation, please be sure to tell them you are with the YLRL convention to get those rates. We hope you will bring your spouses or friends, as side trips will be planned. Rates will be good two days before and two days after, July 28th & 29th and August 1st and 2nd. There is so much to see in the area so you may want to spend more time then the two nights.

Beside self-guided, or tour guided trips on the Queen, there are historic videos, gallery of art deco treasures, an array of colorful shops, rewarding restaurants, and the historical wireless room and museum, where you will be able to operate from W6RO. Just be sure to bring a copy of your license since you can not operate without it. Also, there is a Runabout bus that, at no charge, will pick you up at the QM and take you shopping, to restaurants and to the new state of the art Aquarium.
