Railways of Balkan Europe

Due to server space constraints, and even more importantly, because this is what I know best, I have changed the format of this site to cover the countries of the former Yugoslavia only, as opposed to the entire Balkans.

When I started this site in 1995, I had only a little bit of info about some Yugoslavian and Bulgarian steam locomotives; I had never imagined that it would become such a massive site as it is today. Not only is it an inhuman labour to try to cover the railways of the entire Balkan peninsula, it is also next to impossible to maintain a constant flow of new information on such a large area; several areas of this page, namely Bulgaria, Romania, Hungary and Greece, were last updated a year or more ago. I believe that I can do a much better job if I cover only one area, namely the former Yugoslavia, as this is what I know most about.

The Albania pages, being located on another server, will continue as a collective effort between myself and Geoff Sarbutt (though Geoff puts the vast majority of effort into that site!)

To everyone who has helped me with this site over the years, both with new information, or just a friendly e-mail of encouragement, I would like to thank you sincerely, and hope that you will find the new version of this site, though more restricted in scope, as interesting as the former, broader site. My hope is, that by restricting the scope of the site, I will have time to provide an even greater amount of information on this smaller subject area.

Cheers, Ferko
