Who is Overload?...
He is Montreal born drummer/composer René Amesse. Studied percussion at McGill University under Pierre Béluse and composition/arrangement with Frank Mella. He has performed and recorded with various artists and groups such as Montreal Sound, Vic Vogel, Diane Tell, Geraldine Hunt, The Joey Armando All Stars, Smash, Dave Turner Quintet, The Funkaholics, to name a few. Other instruments played include piano, synths, guitar, bass, soprano and alto sax, congas, timbales.
About the solo CD project...
"The basic concept was to write a 'new' kind of music based on rhythm rather than melody as a starting point and perform/record ALL instruments myself at home in my studio. Also, I wanted the music to feel 'live' and not sequenced. Playing all instruments gives me complete control and lets me truly replicate the music I hear in my head, without any compromises. In return, I believe this enables me to communicate and share more directly with the listener".
About the music...
It's a blend of funk, salsa, rock and jazz, but I prefer to call it NEW-M(illenium) music. Hot rhythms, haunting melodies, and fiery solos all influenced by more than 30 years of playing and listening. No 'fast food' here. NEW-M music will give your ears a full course 5 star meal. Enjoy!
