The Tommy Tuberville era begins...

Named Head Football Coach - 11/28/98

"I was contacted by most jobs that were open. This is the only one I considered. It's not about the money. It's about the opportunity. I think we can win a national championship here." -- Tommy Tuberville, new head coach, Nov. 28, 1998.

Craziest Rumors Floating Around

Tom Osborne interested in coming out of retirement to coach at Auburn

Chan Gailey interested in leaving the Cowboys to coach at Auburn

Questions to Ponder

Will Rodney Garner return to Auburn, now that Terry Bowden is no longer on the Plains? Will he be asked back? Would he come?

Where will Terry Bowden end up? Clemson? South Carolina? Oklahoma? Will he be competing with brother Tommy for the same jobs?
Leading candidates for Permanent Coach:

Bill Oliver: Interim Coach, Leading candidate, Oliver's resume includes a National Championship, as a player and a coach. My personal favorite

Pat Sullivan: Auburn Heisman Winning QB, Former TCU Head Coach. Coached QBs at Auburn before going to TCU.

Bobby Wallace: 3 Nat'l Championships w/ UNA, Former AU Asst and Current Temple Head Coach. Took 0-5 Temple and upset undefeated Virginia Tech.

Tommy Tuberville: Ole Miss Head Coach, Great upside. Real Player's coach.

Larry Blakeney: Troy State Coach, Former Auburn Asst. Quality coach, but implicated in Ramsey affair. Longshot at best.

From the Pulse of the People: Quote of the Day!

We improved doing some things during the week. Again, it comes back to fundamentals. We have not properly taught fundamentals on both sides of the football. We will get these things straightened out! - Bill Oliver
