I rode what I think is the same bike you have.  I was very impressed, wow you are lucky to have a brand new one.  If you would like a rider I could ask my friend if he is interested in selling his.  I'll have to show him this site.

Hello Mark,

Impressive homepage! And surroundings - seems that you can ride all year ?  In Denmark we have a season of 7 months - April to October - and right now everybody awaits spring.  I acquired a 1967 C25 Barracuda in 1994 from England - and it is (shame!) still in the basement as our authorities want more in taxes than I paid for the bike so I'll wait another 2 years for the bike to grow old enough for registration as a "35 years Veteran"- it is much cheaper in tax.  My road legal bikes are a Vincent HRD Rapide 1946, a Rudge Ulster 1938 and a BSA A65L from 1970. The Rudge and Vincent are ready for spring, the BSA needs a new clutch - and that is how I found your home-page, through C&D Autos links.  Unfortunately I only have a photo of the Vincent:

Subject: More Starfire pictures

Mark,

As promised, here are two more photos of the Starfire.  Taken Winter '85/86 I'd guess, that's me saying "hurry up and take the photo - this is heavy!".

Hope you got lots of Valentines,

Martin.

Mark,

I sent two images, maybe you didn't get them.  I'll try to send them now (where did I put them?)  I'll send more when I find the photos.

Martin.

Hi Mark,

Stumbled across your website and it bought back memories. My first bike was a Starfire (1969 model) and I have just bought a B25 Fleetstar which originally started out as a police bike. Currently in the middle of a major engine overhaul as I only want to do it once, hopefully back on the road by end of Feb. Hope you like the pic and happy biking.

All the best
Dave

Nice bike! But you knew that. Good photography too.

I am the proud owner of a '68 Starfire. It had been stored away like yours, but only after getting some use and losing it's speedometer and sidecovers.

A local man had a '69 for sale this summer that had 386 miles showing on the odometer. I listened to it idle and it sounded sweet. My guess on your  exhaust pipe is that the motor has been idled and the heat discoloration built up quickly.

My vote is to ride it. Life is too short and the enjoyment comes from the experience of using the machinery for what it was designed for.

I own a '29 Model A Ford and it is my car, not a museum piece. Everybody loves to see these mechanical works of art in action.

Subject: your 1967 BSA STARFIRE

I enjoyed your web page. On page 250 of ""BSA SINGLES RESTORATION" by Roy Beacon, your engine and frame numbers show yours to be a 1967 model. I am restoring a 1968 model. Front fork gattors and a different paint color, along with side re-flectors were the major differences. I found mine in a moving sale. It had 3800 miles on the clock. Price $35.It was missing the clutch, alternator, and primary case cover. After restoring some basket cases, nothing beats a complete original.  The BSA Owners Club of Northern Calif. is the best. I can send membership info. if you want. Happy Beesing!

Dear Mark,
I owned a Starfire from '85 to '87, and she was quick.  I'm not sure you've got just one machine there.  The starfire as I understand it was the B25 with a steel tank, UNC screws in the engine and twin-leading front brake.  The Baraccuda was the earlier model C25 with a glass fiber tank and an earlier type of screw thread.  I am no expert and there are too many "experts" out there.  I think you've got a nice machine though.    Please ride the 'bike, that's what it was built for.  HOWEVER, I lost one engine due to an oil seal.  It sits on the right side of the crank shaft, and supplies oil to the crankcase.   I have some old photos, but no scanner.  Maybe soon.

Good luck,
Martin (in England 50 miles from Birmingham.)
