it was such a drag to haul her tail out of the fish tank 
flop across the kitchen floor 
to light her cigarette off the stove 
because her lighter didn't work under water. 

sometimes, spot daydreamed of underwater welding units she saw on the television once. 
one day, when i am very rich, she would say to herself. 

after spending most of the day flopping over the lino of the kitchen floor 
leaping onto the counter 
and leaning her cigarette against the slowly warming rings of the element 
spots daydreams turned into her worst nightmare....

and rover came home to the smell of crispy grilled seafood once again. 

the next day rover went to the library... stopping by the pet shop to pick up a new friend.. fish are like that. 

rover erased the fact that spot was a smoker from the diary.
