This week, the images are the great founders and venerable lamas and
gurus of the various traditions of Tibetan Buddhism. There have been people
asking why the deities in Tibetan Buddhism, especially the Dharma Protectors
and deities of the Highest Yoga Tantra are so wrathful and fierce in looks.
The look of wrathfulness is also the same as compassion. Just like a compassionate
mother hitting her child and getting angry at the child. The mother is
trying to prevent the child from future wrong-doings. This is the same
reason why some deities are wrathful.
