Photos of journey into and through valley.

possible entrance to valley is just above the middle on the right - 37 Kb

As we look west from a viewpoint, we can see on the right where a slope comes down to the valley floor. This would have been an easy way to get into the valley. Based on their description, they probably came down this slope.

The line just above the centre of the photo is an abandoned railway
roadbed and just to the left of it is the stream.

north-west view of valley wall (9 kb)

From the same viewpoint, we look north and are reminded that
the valley wall is quite high.

View looking north-east at Dunphy (16 kb)

This photo looks north-east from the south side of the same viewpoint and shows the hamlet of Dunphy in the distance with the valley wall on both sides.  This is probably the area where they crossed the stream about 5 to 7 times.

Beyond Dunphy, just around the corner is the Red Deer River in the Drumheller valley. Not far away, downstream a bit and across the river is Fox coulee, the coulee they followed to get out of the valley. If you are fascinated with this photo, you might want to see an 89 kb enlargement of it.
