BANNEKER CENTER FOR ECONOMIC JUSTICE
The Banneker public policy team focuses on tax reform. Their site combines provocative essays, surveys, quizzes, and a discussion area (as well as a lot of information) in its promotion of economic justice.

ELECTRONIC DEMOCRACY SOLUTIONS
Electoral issues, specifically phone-voting and referendum initiatives reform, are the focus here.

CAMPAIGN FOR REAL EQUITABLE ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT

Environment


GREENPEACE

AMNESTY INTERNATIONAL
Amnesty International is a grassroots activist organization whose one-million strong members are dedicated to freeing prisoners of conscience, to gaining fair trials for political prisoners, to ending torture and "disappearances," and to abolishing the death penalty throughout the world. ACLU
The American Civil Liberties Union web site serves as both an information source and an outreach effort by the nonpartisan, nonprofit organization . The extensive database has info on everything from cyber-liberties to HIV/AIDS to the death penalty.

Virtually every other democracy in the world uses proportional representation (rather than a winner-take-all approach). Maybe that is why their citizens bother to vote. FAMILIES AGAINST MANDATORY MINIMUMS
FAMM is a national organization of citizens working to repeal statutory mandatory minimum sentences which lead to prison overcrowding, are costly, and ultimately are downright racist in the way in which they are executed. Why is it that equal amounts of crack and powder cocaine don't lead to equivalent prison sentences?

MUMIA ABU-JAMAL
Mumia Abu-Jamal is an African-American journalist now on death row in Pennsylvania. Abu-Jamal was sentenced to death in 1982 as a result of a thoroughly unconvincing trial in which he was convicted of shooting a Philadelphia policeman. His appeal is currently before the Pennsylvania Supreme court. Whether or not Mumia is innocent, he deserves a fair trial, something he has yet to receive.
