The International Mornington Crescent Internet Tournament

Back to the main MC page

Greetings and welcome to the pages of the International Mornington Crescent Internet Tournament. Over a number of games we hope to determine which of the four teams is the best at playing standard MC. The teams are:

AGMC

Alt.games.mornington.cres(c)ent is the newsgroupt that has produced some of the fine players we have in the world today. Their playing style often reflects their medium, with audacious gambits and tricky players.

Delphi

Delphi is the commercial site set up from Yoz Grahame's student code. Now very popular with a wide variety of players, the Delphi team consists of the 'old guard' players, and to my mind these are some of the most sophisticated and clever players of the site.

Mono

Mono is a mailing list that has existed as long as I can remember. Set up by some very distinguished players, Mono has always been a bastion of clever, elegant and subtle (if somewhat short) play.

York

York is one of the cultural highlights of the MC web scene. Featuring an amazing blend of stylish and sophisticated play with raw determination, the York team comprises the best of the old and the new players.

And your referee:

I am a current 1997 IMCS Gold Card referee and have been for two years. I am hosting the tournament not only to provide the players with a chance to play against eachother in a professional tournament, but also to see these great minds at work. It is, at times, truly a wonderous experience.

The games:

  1. Game 1 - won by Andy Boal (AGMC).
  2. Game 2 - won by James Crook (AGMC).
  3. Game 3 - won by Tom Tanner (Mono).
  4. Game 4 - won by Big Rich (Mono).
  5. Game 5 - won by Jonathan Hall (York).
  6. Game 6 - still playing.
  7. Game 7 - still playing.
  8. Game 8 - still playing.
  9. Game 10 - still playing.
(Game 9 was, of course, left out by common consent as a reverent gesture toward those who lost their lives in a tragic failure to mind the gap on an attempted team double reverse straddle in the Golders Green Invitational in 1953. It was the ninth event, and it was the ninth game being played; such coincidences do not happen often - pray so.)
