The purpose of this page is to give you a idea of the kind of game that I would like to run, to let you know what I would like to see happen with the game and the direction I would like it to go, and then if this all sounds okay, and after some feedback from you (as in what type of character you would like to play), we can organise to get eveyone together and get the ball rolling!
I have been roleplaying since 1979, playing at cons since 1987, and designing for cons since 1988. I have played a lot of wonderful games, and played some really crap games, The same goes for running as well, some games I have run have been fab and other games, well, have been shockers. The best gaming experience I have ever had have been in two campaigns, and these campaigns have been a bench mark for me eversince. The first game was a campaign that I played in for 5 years, a Cthullu campaign. The game was played every Sunday night, come hell or high water. Our characters developed and grew, the story stayed fresh befcause the g-ming duties were shared and a fabo time was had by all. DO NOT PANIC...I DON"T EXPECT OR WANT THIS SORT OF COMMITTMENT FROM POTENTIAL PLAYERS! I don't know about you, but I have a very busy life
The Second campaign I was talking about was a Pendragon Campaign run by Mark Grundy, The Wunderkind Gm. No-one runs a game like Mark, one word...magic. This camapign again was a great story, and to see the characters develop and the story grow into something wonderful, look, I consider myself very privileged to have been able to play a very small role in it. Now with mark, he like to play one on one as well as a group, and there were many times that I got to see dawn rise on my way home. AGAIN DONT PANIC...I AM GETTING TO OLD FOR THIS KIND OF GAMING (unless the story is barrelling along and everyone has forgotten the time and...you get the picture).
I would like to see strong story and in particular, character develpment happen in this game. I would like to see the Gm duties shared, and not by everyone, just by those who feel they have part of the story to tell themselves, or who would like to have a bash, so maybe I can play every now and then myself.
The tone of the game...if the game was a film, I'd say the rating would be "M". I will be running a game that will involve intrigue, politics, action and adventure, a little bit of mayhem, sex, a little romance here and there as well as some chaos, humour etc. Sometimes, you just gotta laugh, and laugh till it hurts, other times, you have to have the heebie jeebie's scared out off you and other times, the adrenalin flows like a river. This is the type of game that I will be running
So now you have an idea of the kind of game that I will be running. If this sounds like the kind of game that you would like to play, cool...read on McDuff! I would like to place my game in Vodacce, the Renaissance Venice/Italian country. The reason for this? Politics, intrigue, poison, high drama all wrapped up in cool clothes and the attitude to match. If you have ever read anything about Venice during the Renaissance, the word "colourful" does not even comes close to events of the times...so Vodacce will be the setting of the game, but...in saying that I am also open to suggestions and any kind of ideas that you may have. But please keep in mind the type of game that I will be running when your are deciding what characters you would like to play.
What kind of characters can you play...well, here's a couple of ideas. A merchant man, a priest, a sworsman, a courtesan, a noble woman, if a vodacce lady-A fate witch, an explorer, a servant, a master/mistress...you get the picture, again think Renaissance Italy or Renaissance Europe for a hook. Tv series & Movies to hire and watch to give you a feel for Theah, The Duellists (Napoleonic era, but very cool netherless, watch the dueling stances and techniques) anything with the word "Muskateer" in it, Queen Margot, Destiny of her Own, Captian Blood, The Sea Hawk, The Scarlett Pimpernel ( a little late but still applicable), Elizabeth R, The Six wives of Hery the VIII, Orlando, Elizabeth, Shakespear in Love (girly alert), the travels of Marco Polo, the Borgias, a particulary fab episode of Dr Who (my all time fav I might add) - The Masque of Mandragora, suitably relevant shakespear (not modern adaptions but period costumed) and so the list grows....
When you have decided what kind of character you would like to play, and from where, I would like to you to have abit of a think about where you are from and the important stuff that has happened to you. There is a list of set questions from the 7th Seas players guide that I will send you via email when you have made your decisions, these questions will help you flesh out your character. What I would also like you to do is to pick a piece of music that describes the nature of your character, and a picture that also describes the NATURE (not the appearance of ) of your character. When we get hold of everyone's piece of music, I will have the tracks burnt (hopefully) on cd's for everyone who plays, that or cassettes. I have done this before for another campaign, and I found that everyone involved enjoyed listening to the music outside of the game, in their car whilst driving or whatever, and it gave a small insight into the other characters and NPCs in the game.
The other thing that I would like you to do is to pick one card from the Tarot major Arcana. you can use this card once, and once only during the story we will play. This card when you choose to play it will effect the outcome of one event during the game, but when playing this chosen card please bare in mind there will be consequences, dire or otherwise depending on the card you have choosen and the situation you have chosen to change. It's not to be done lightly, and the effects of this action can be really cool.
So now you got the skinny, if you would like to play and are not put off by the info above, please feel free to email me at homejobrent@magna.com.auor at work jellem@au1.ibm.com and we can start to co-ordinate times to play etc, etc. Click on this link character sheets for downloadable character sheets from the official 7th Seas website.
