Blue Waters

A coyote howled last night,
and an owl circled my lodge twice,
It was the voice of one that crossed the blue waters.
I felt a pang in my heart at this passing,
It was wrong.
Her passing gave her peace and
brought her to the love of the Mother.
I will see her again one day,
when my canoe too crosses the blue waters.
She will stand there and smile,
she will welcome me to the lands of our people.
The lands that none can take from us.
And we will fight no more,
Forever.
