POSTING A MESSAGE:
To post a message to the list, address your email to obsse@lyris.unc.edu.

REPLYING TO MESSAGES:
If you would like to comment on a message someone else has sent, simply choose "Reply" as you would for any other message.

SUBSCRIBING AND UNSUBSCRIBING:
There are two ways to join the list - via e-mail, and via the web. First off, you can simply go to the OBSSE Lyris Site to join, read archives of old messages (but only if you're a subscriber), and do lots of other neat things.

To join the obsse list via e-mail, send a message to join-obsse@lyris.unc.edu. The subscribe command is

subscribe obsse your_name.

To leave, send the message to leave-obsse@lyris.unc.edu. The command to unsubscribe is

leave obsse

or

unsubscribe obsse.

Do not send this to the list!  Leave the subject field blank. 

If you're in doubt as to how to unsubscribe, directions to the webpage are attached to every e-mail sent over the list.

It is suggested that you set a password when you join. This can either be done via the Web Interface, or by sending a message to lyris@lyris.unc.edu with the message body:

set obsse pw=mypassword

OTHER FEATURES:

Lyris supports a number of other features. Many of these can be accomplished via the web interface, but they can also be done via e-mail. To access these features, send a message to lyris@lyris.unc.edu with the following commands in the message body:

SETTING MEMBERSHIP TO DIGEST MODE

set obsse digest

SETTING MEMBERSHIP TO INDEX MODE:

set obsse index

SETTING MEMBERSHIP TO DISCUSSION MODE:

set obsse mail

TEMPORARILY SUSPENDING MAIL FROM THE LIST:

set obsse nomail

RESUMING MAIL FROM THE LIST:

(command depends on your preferred mode)

ACKNOWLEDGMENT:

(sends you a confirmation message when your posts are distributed)

set obsse ack

(no confirmation message when posts are distributed)

set obsse noack

RECEIVING COPIES OF YOUR OWN POSTS:

set obsse repro

(do not receive copies)

set obsse norepro

SETTING YOUR PASSWORD:

set obsse pw=mypassword

DETERMINING YOUR MEMBERSHIP SETTINGS:

query obsse

RETRIEVING THE CURRENT VERSION OF THIS DOCUMENT:
