Daily Goddess: Black Eart Mother, Goddess of the Mother City
The Black Earth Mother is revered in many forms, Some human, some Animal,
some hybrid. The Goddess is seen as a archtype force which is the living web
of life, and is said to live in all things. Joyous an happy, cruel and
cunning she is the embodyment of life.

PARLIAMENT OF THE WORLD RELIGIONS UPDATE:
The Opening Ceremony was beautiful, as many thousand religionists marched the
city in their traditional robes. Our Community had a Dozen represenatives
including Selena Fox, Dennis Carpentar, Mellissa Grant, Debra Light, and Dr.
Michael York. This brought home the idea we really are one people.

This Event is very different from the '93 event held in Chicago. First it is
scattered sites and this gives the event openess that is quite workable. The
event is much more international in it's format and attendance and less
speculative in it's context. The work here is part educational, part sharing,
and more on work and sharing resources. Projects are being announced that may
have a great impact on the world around us.

Secondly, Cape Town is very much behind this. They have established a
security blanket to really make us feel secure. In Chicago this was one event
among many, here it is a event of great importance. Many of the residents are
supportive and want to know more.

Special note must be made to Earth Spirit, Circle Sanctuary and COG for
establishing a beautiful informational booth, called "Pagana from The United
States". At that booth is all sorts of materials that are very useful. The
best is COG's Parliament Booklet which is filled with great materials, and
many illustrations, most especially from our very own Don Lewis. This allows
the community to be well represented.

Selena Fox and Dennis Carpenter finished their first of several lectures,
this one on Dreams and Spirituality. The workshop attracted over 60
participants of diverse religions, including Moslem, Hindu, Unitarian
Universalist, Roman Catholic, as wellas a Wiccan/Pagan group. The Class had
lots of interaction, and we discovered that dreams share symbols of different
religious faiths. This was great because it gave us a opportunity to open
dialogue with something of a common language.

In the Afternoon, I attended a workshop/meeting with Rev. Dr. Donald Conroy,
President of the North American Coalition of Religion and Enviroment. In the
Workshop he noted the contributions Wiccans have given the enviromental
movement and our participation in Earth Day Projects. This was significant as
Angelican Bishop was present as well as several other faiths. It was nice to
be an example of religion and enviroment.

At this meeting he announce the formation of Caring for Creation Network, and
in a private converstaion afterward, He mentioned his desire to have Earth
Religion take a much stronger hand. In the process they have formed a online
site, which will be fully operational in a few weeks at
http://www.caringforcreation.org , which will be an source for projects. Dr.
Conroy in particular is looking for us to conduct local Festival of Lights as
well as other land stewardship projects. This is a opportunity to join in a
Interfaith Project that really matters to us. Check it out, and also

On the Millenial Apology by The Vatican, Dr. Michael York and Selena Fox are
working diligently on the process and are meeting quietly with the Roman
Catholic Delegates to begin the process. We give them our hopes and our
blessings.

As a final note, The Goddess faith's are well accepted here and we are seen
as part of the solution and not the problem, which goes to show that all the
energy and work we have put in has done significant good. We are coming to a
time when we need to ask what is next for our community? If you have any

PARLIAMENT UPDATE:

Have you ever felt that the whole world was moving in a new direction? That their was hope for the ideas we believe in? Here at the Parliament, I have had just that feeling.

The event has drawn Pagans from US, England and South Africa, and together they are doing over 40 workshops, and we are involved at seminars and conferences at every level.

Selena Fox of Circle Sanctuary has been very active and has met with people across the board. Her Classes have been attended by more then 50 people each and only a small amount are Pagan. One Ladt, Andre' from Belgiun, a Christian, said she never knew women could have so much power and authority after the Panel of Witches of US and South Africa, and she plans on to do more. This is the effect Selena and all the Pagan Presenters have had on people here.

Debra Ann Light and Donald Frue, Of Earth Spirit and COG are in the assembly today representing the Earth Religions. This body which only a small portion of attendees are working to ratify "The Call for Guiding Institutions" as a framework of future Interfaith workings.

Judy Grove Harris and Prof. Joseph Graaf gave a superb lecture on WItchcraft as seen in Africa and The United States. This was a chilling account of the constant killing of old women and others we have so read about. The chief reason is the fear of the unknown, and a world view that is based in poverty. The burnings represent a way of killing, not just the body but the spirit as well. It is a way to disconnect the soul from the ancestral spirits as well.

On the other hand, It is getting better. Carol Nowan, Fellowship of Isis member in cooperation with Pagan Interfaith and Telepathic Media has agreed to begin a spiritual Lending Library here in South Africa. This is crucial because books are hideously high priced, and even on that are exceedingly rare. With Donations of books (We will be doing a book drive for this) from the United States we can further the cause of the Goddess Here in South Africa.

The United Religions Initiative is also grabbing hold. It is a initiative to create a UN-like body of Religions in order to dicuss the ideas and needs of religions, as well as find answers to the problems in the world today. And Cog has laid the groundwork for the Pagan/Eco-spirituality communities to join. DGN will be covering this organization as we go on, but you can check them out at http://www.united-religions.org

Last, We heard Nelson Mandela speak and he moved our spirits. If he can live the life he has and win because of his beliefs, then certianly we can do no less. His one comment, "We are not afraid of how small we are but how powerful we can be" struck a chord so deep in me I actually was crying. It reminds me how strong we at this list, this community has become, and how much stronger we will become.

South Africa has a lot of work ahead and the Goddess Community here is strong, healthy and ancient, but it is also a weak as a newborn babe inthe new world of religious freedom and in time will need our help to grow. As we grow ever more global in the Bosom of the Goddess, so to we grow in friendships around the world.

Hi Folks,

Note on Monday we will be back to our traditional format, and we will be covering many new stories, as well as having Goddesses appear in your e-mail daily. We thank you for your patience as we cover this event.

Excitemen is Buzzing, about the Assembly and what will come out of it. As you already now, Donald Frue and Debra Ann Light were sitting as represenatives of the Pagan Faith. They were joined by Selena Fox, as a tribute to the massive amount of work done, by her and Circle.

Dr. Michael York, yesterday gave a very bold talk to some 70 individuals about Paganism and it's theological view. Of course, Pagans were in the Audience, but so were Angelicans, Hindu's, Moslems, Methodist, and other faiths as well. He discussed in no uncertian terms what Paganism is, how it differs, and why it is a growing practice worldwide. Pulling no punches and of course, in the most calm style you have ever seen, he delivered his presentation with deep finese.

This Afternoon, Sarah Avery of the Bluestar Wicca Tradition, delivered a exciting presentation on the Charge of the Goddess that just left the audience spellbound. She spoke with elegance and grace and made a convincing and educational talk on sacred texts that we use that was simply breathtaking.

Melissa Grant, our youngest member, completed The Next Generation Project as a member of Earth Spirit, and she was a superb representative. She added much, and told us Elders a little about service as well. She is a upcoming leader and we are fortunate to have her.

On a last note: I was taken into the Townships last night, and I saw what and how Aparthied damaged the culturer here. Poor, dejected, and left out, The African Black Population continues to suffer in a big way. The current batch of Christian Missionaries compound it by forcing Conversions for food. This is a despicable practice that is destroying the tribal faiths of these people in order to survive. I will write more on this experience, and the heartbreak we saw.

Tomorrow, is the Last day when we march out and close the event, and hear the Dalai Lama speak, and we will join in communion with other faiths as well as the Goddess herself, to create good wishes. I will remeber all of you and I shall add your blessings to the pile. Together we are making a difference.
