During the early part of this century this area was served by at least five
churches. The declining rural population caused the merging of the five churches into three. For many years the following churches supplied the spiritual needs of the major population of the Tulare area:
St. John's UCC Church, rural Tulare, and Salem UCC Church, in Tulare, were served by the same minister. The Tulare United Methodist Church in Tulare received mergers from the Cottonwood Lake and Crandon Settlement churches.

The declining population during the 1960's encouraged the three congregations to make further changes. In order to maintain a resident pastor in the Tulare community the Tri-Church Parish was formed. We have shared a minister since that time.

During the past decade the St. John's Church building has been plagued with flooding and it is no longer used for worship. We have all been worshiping together in Tulare for three years, but our facilities are inadequate. The old United Methodist Church building has deteriorated and is not adequate to serve our newly formed congregation.

Thus we have embarked on a new venture; that of constructing a new church building. We pray that the faith of our church founders may live on in the new Tulare United Church.
